Quartzite Countertops

About
Quartzite is made out of a type of metamorphic rock. This rock consists primarily of natural quartz. Once sandstone and quartz are exposed to a high temperature and added pressure, the quartz grains start to fuse together. The result is a beautiful, hard rock that is perfect for home countertops.

While quartzite is generally white or gray, there are other colors available as well. No matter what pattern you choose, quartzite is an exceptionally durable material. It is known for being as strong as granite, which is one reason why so many homeowners invest in quartzite counters.

Care and Maintenance
Fortunately, quartzite requires very little care and maintenance. If you keep your countertops fairly clean, they should last for years. For everyday messes, you just need a sponge and hot water to clean your counters.

If you want to protect your counters, you should clean up acidic liquids right away. This means you should remove wine and coffee spills immediately. In addition, you should use a coaster to prevent water rings from developing. Unlike other stone types, you do not need to use hot pads to protect your quartzite counters.

Countertop Comparisons
There are several distinct advantages to using quartzite countertops. These counters are extremely strong, so they can last for years. In addition to resisting heat, they also resist stains and scratches. This makes them ideal for bathrooms and kitchens.

While engineered quartz has fairly similar properties, it is slightly worse at resisting stains and heat. In addition, quartzite contains a beauty you can only find in nature. As an added benefit, quartzite is less porous than marble.
